Leeds star opens up on ‘Nervous energy’, guarantees squad knows what to do with ‘Expectation’
Earning a draw against Preston might not have been the worst result for Leeds United. Many players weren’t at the top of their game and it’s better to draw than lose when behind for so long.
Liam Cooper, Ben White, and Kiko Casilla all struggled playing out from the back and the lack of help from midfield did blunt the Whites’ attack at points.
The result made it three without a win, and it was clear that there was a sense of anger and nervousness in Elland Road on Boxing Day.
Speaking about the draw with Preston on Thursday evening, captain Cooper was full of praise for the resilience his side showed at Elland Road.
“We don’t know when we are beat, we never give up and I think if there was one team going to win that in the second half it was going to be us,” he told the Yorkshire Evening Post.
The Whites’ captain opened up about the support and atmosphere created by fans, claiming that him and his teammates know how to cope with that pressure.
“There is always nervous energy around every stadium at this time of year – we are used to playing with this expectation and pressure and we know what we have got to do.”
“We are a good team who don’t give up and that is the way it will always be.”
Cooper is clearly well-respected within the Leeds dressing, and he has been here long enough to know how much promotion to the Premier League will mean to the club as a whole.
If there is one player that the fans will trust when they speak, it’s Cooper and his rise to the top is testament to the hard work that he will put in between now and the end of the season.
