Leeds sound out Paulo Fonseca as potential new manager amid Marcelo Bielsa talks

Leeds United have recently sounded out a potential move to hire Paulo Fonseca as their next manager, according to Italian journalist Gianluigi Longari.

The SportItalia reporter wrote on his personal Twitter account on Saturday evening that Fonseca, 48, is set to leave Roma at the end of the season.

It is understood that Napoli, Nice, Crystal Palace and Leeds, who are currently dealing with Marcelo Bielsa’ contract situation, have all been in contact about possibly hiring the Portuguese boss.

Nope

While it wouldn’t be a bad idea for Leeds United to sound out potential successors to Bielsa with the Argentine’s contract due to expire soon, we really don’t think he’ll be going anywhere.

Since joining Leeds in 2018, Bielsa has only signed up for one year at a time and there’s no suggestion that he’ll be packing his bags and leaving Elland Road this summer.

He’s loving life in West Yorkshire and has become a legend among Leeds fans.

Is there another manager in the Premier League with such high popularity among their fans than Bielsa? There may be one or two but definitely not many who enjoy the support the ex-Marseille boss has at Leeds United.

Bielsa’s done a superb job and Victor Orta needs to ensure that he does not go anywhere in the summer.

Fonseca would be an interesting choice to replace Bielsa if they do end up having to go down that route.

He’s managed at top clubs in Europe including Porto, Shakhtar Donetsk and now Roma, who are in the semi-finals of the Europa League.

We could definitely do worse than him but nothing would be better than Bielsa signing on the dotted line for at least another year.
