Leeds promotion chances shift in supercomputer prediction after Swansea draw

Leeds United were somehow held to a 2-2 draw by Swansea on Saturday afternoon at Elland Road.

Daniel Farke‘s side remain in second place, level on points with third-placed Burnley, albeit with a nine-goal advantage.

The race for promotion to the Premier League is razor close, and any dropped points feel like a disaster, but that may not be the case.

Leeds promotion chances drop after Swansea draw

Leeds are desperate to secure Premier League football next season, and all hope is not lost despite a run that has seen them drop points in four of their last five matches.

Despite Burnley and Sheffield United securing victories on a weekend when the Whites could only manage a draw, it does not look terminal for their promotion hopes after a new prediction emerged.

The race for promotion

The Opta supercomputer gives the Elland Road outfit a 76.5 per cent chance of securing automatic promotion after the Swansea draw, which is down from the 86.38 chance after the Blades’ win over Coventry (28 March).

In terms of the title, their chances have reduced from 54.16 per cent to 40.62 after the draw against the Welsh outfit.

With the promotion race set to go right down to the wire, Farke’s side are predicted to finish second by just one point over the Clarets.

Leeds need to return to form

The Whites’ form in recent weeks has been concerning, with the victory over Millwall (12 March) being their only win in their last five.

However, it is not all doom and gloom for supporters; there are still plenty of twists and turns in the race for promotion, and their two opponents for automatic promotion still have to play each other.

Leeds need to return to the form that saw them beat Sunderland and the Blades and seem set to secure top-flight football for the first time since the 2022/23 season.

They need their star players like Ao Tanaka, Dan James and Joel Piroe to step up in the final seven matches of the season, otherwise they may have to settle for a place in the playoffs, which has historically not gone well for them.
