Leeds promotion chances predicted by supercomputer after win v Middlesbrough

Leeds United returned to the top of the Championship with a 1-0 win over Middlesbrough.

Daniel Farke’s side had been written off in the race for promotion after a run of just one win in six matches but they bounced back with a tough victory (8 April).

That result combined with a loss for Sheffield United and a draw for Burnley means that the Whites are in pole position once again to secure a return to the Premier League.

Leeds promotion chances skyrocket after Middlesbrough win

Farke is desperate to take Leeds back to the top-flight after missing out in heartbreaking fashion last season.

The Whites’ recent run had left them with a huge job on their hands to overhaul the Blades and the Clarets but they bounced back to take advantage of poor results for their rivals.

A new prediction from the Opta supercomputer gives the Elland Road outfit a 90.8 per cent chance to be promoted automatically, which is a major increase from the 67 per cent after the draw with Luton (5 April).

They now have a 57.7 per cent chance of winning the Championship title, which is up from 30.08 per cent from Saturday.

Farke’s side are currently expected to top the second tier with a total of 95 points, ahead of the Turf Moor outfit on 94 and Chris Wilder’s side on 91.

Leeds just need to keep their composure in Championship run-in

Leeds just need to keep their composure to secure a first season in the top-flight since the 2022/23 campaign.

They will be relieved to get back to winning ways but they must not take their foot of the gas in the run-in despite facing just one side in the top half in their final five matches.

Playoff-chasing Bristol City are the only opposition that are in the top 10 that they will face in the run-in, so Farke’s side will be confident as the season grinds to a conclusion.

The new prediction shows the twists and turns of the Championship and that the Whites cannot afford to get complacent, they must stay focused on their job and win all their remaining games.
