
Leeds pay tribute as Liverpool release statement about Diogo Jota’s death, aged 28
Leeds United have paid their tribute to Diogo Jota as Liverpool released a statement on his death on Thursday morning.
The 28-year-old Portugal international passed away in a tragic road accident in Spain along with his brother Andre.
Since the news emerged, the footballing world has paid its tributes to the Portuguese and his family.

Leeds took to X on 3 July to issue a statement on Jota’s untimely passing.
They sent their condolences to Jota’s family and Liverpool, stating that the thoughts of everyone at Elland Road are with them.
The statement read: “The thoughts of everyone at Leeds United are with Diogo Jota’s family, friends and all associated with Liverpool at this devastating time.”

Liverpool also released a statement of the same, confirming the horrific news.
They wrote: “Liverpool Football Club are devastated by the tragic passing of Diogo Jota.
“The club have been informed the 28-year-old has passed away following a road traffic accident in Spain along with his brother, Andre.
“Liverpool FC will be making no further comment at this time and request the privacy of Diogo and Andre’s family, friends, teammates and club staff is respected as they try to come to terms with an unimaginable loss.
“We will continue to provide them with our full support.”
Jota enjoyed a heralded footballing career
Having joined from Wolves in 2020, Jota hit the ground running at Anfield, becoming a key attacking outlet in Jurgen Klopp’s side.
He was known for his tenacity, vision, composure and ability to find the back of the net when the team needed him the most.
Last season, he won the Premier League trophy in Arne Slot’s first campaign at the Merseyside outfit.
Along with that, he also won the FA Cup, Community Shield and the Carabao Cup twice for the Reds.
Jota also enjoyed a decorated international career with Portugal, featuring 49 times for them.
In June, he played in the UEFA Nations League final win over Spain, which was a nail-biting affair.
