Leeds offered chance to sign never-before-seen player on loan from PL giants - Report

Leeds United have been offered the chance to sign Arsenal defender William Saliba on loan, according to the Daily Mail

The Whites have already brought in defensive reinforcements in the shape of Robin Koch and Diego Llorente this summer after Brighton loanee Ben White returned to his parent club at the end of last season.

But it is understood that they could be in the market for one more centre-back before the transfer window shuts next week.

The Mail suggest that the 19-year-old Frenchman has been offered to the Whites by the Gunners, having only arrived at the club this summer.

The defender was signed from St. Etienne in a deal worth around £27 million last summer, but was loaned back to the French outfit last season.

He is still yet to make his senior bow for Mikel Arteta’s men.

This could be an interesting one.

Saliba is something of an unknown entity in the English game, but you would have to say that if there is one man who you would trust to bring him out of his shell, it would be Marcelo Bielsa.

The Frenchman is comfortable on the ball, having registered a higher pass completion rate and over twice as many dribbles per game as Ben White last term, as per Wyscout.

But he is defensively sound too, making more interceptions and winning a higher percentage of his aerial duels than the Brighton loanee as well.

Clearly, all of the raw materials are there for Saliba to be a real player, he just needs somebody to sculpt him.

Another centre-back probably wouldn’t go amiss at Elland Road, especially since Bielsa has begun to experiment with a three at the back, and a loan deal for such a promising young talent could be a serious coup.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites have agreed a £70,000-a-week contract with this potential new signing.
