Leeds news round-up: Daniel Farke has issue to resolve as sporting great scouts United player

Leeds United have given their survival prospects a massive shot in the arm with results over the past week.

Leeds followed up a memorable win over Chelsea at Elland Road with a dramatic 3-3 home draw against Liverpool on Saturday.

Those results lift Leeds into 16th place and now two points clear of the Premier League relegation zone ahead of next week’s trip to Brentford.

Daniel Farke still has some issues to deal with, though, as Leeds look to push further clear from danger.

Here, MOT Leeds News rounds up all the big goings on from the past 24 hours.

Supercomputer predicts Leeds’ final Premier League position

As things stand, Leeds simply need to outperform one of West Ham or Nottingham Forest between now and the end of the season – while Brentford will be in that list should the Whites win next weekend.

Despite the recent upturn in results, however, Opta’s supercomputer has Leeds down to be relegated come the end of the season.

The Whites are predicted to finish with a tally of 38 points, which would see them go down and West Ham marginally stay up.

As we all know, though, football is played on grass and not on spreadsheets.

Leeds make approach to sign star who Cesc Fabregas called ‘immense’

The January transfer window is now on the horizon and speculation over who the Whites could sign – and indeed sell – will only intensify as the days pass.

Fabrizio Romano has suggested that Martin Baturina is a target for Leeds, with an approach having already been made.

Fabregas was previously full of praise for Baturina upon joining Como in the summer, but the midfielder has not played as much as he would have liked since arriving.

“Martin is a player of immense quality,” Fabregas said at the time. “He’s intelligent on the ball, strong in duels, and has the personality to make things happen in key moments.”

Leeds now worst across Europe’s top five leagues in one area

Hugo Ekitike’s quickfire goals early in the second half at Elland Road were soon forgotten about as Leeds earned a point in memorable circumstances.

However, there is no denying that Farke needs to buck the trend when it comes to Leeds’ slow starts to second halves.

Indeed, Leeds are the worst side across Europe’s major leagues for goals conceded in the first five minutes after half time this term, shipping five in total.

Whatever it is Farke is saying or doing at half-time, the German clearly needs to start doing the opposite.

Boris Becker reaches out to Julian Nagelsmann after what he saw in Leeds draw vs Liverpool

Yes, you read that right. Tennis and all-time sporting great Boris Becker tagged Julian Nagelsmann on X at the weekend after watching Leeds’ draw with Liverpool.

Becker was clearly impressed by Anton Stach as he questioned whether the midfielder is going to be part of Nagelsmann’s Germany plans for the World Cup.

Stach has played for Germany at the senior level before, making his debut in 2022 against Israel under Hansi Flick.

He has featured only once since, coming against Italy the same year, but he has yet to feature under Nagelsmann.
