Leeds United manager news emerges live on Sky Sports today

Leeds United are said to have commenced the process to appoint a new manager, following an update on Wednesday afternoon from Tim Thornton on Sky Sports News.

The key message delivered was that things are now expected to move quickly, with the understanding that the wheels are now in motion as the reign of the 49ers Enterprises gets underway.

It was intimated that progress on a new head coach will have a direct positive impact on new players, as well as a replacement for Victor Orta as director of football at the club, to be appointed.

The three-man managerial shortlist is said to consist of Daniel Farke, Scott Parker and Carlos Corberan so it is clear that the owners want an appointment well-equipped for the task of securing a return to the top-flight.

The update from Sky Sports set out what is expected to happen next.

“We now expect formal interviews to take place next week, then having drawn up a shortlist, we expect an appointment to follow soon after,” it said.

“Leeds are making progress, we expect things to move pretty quickly and once those interviews take place next week, it is all about getting the new man in place well ahead of the start of pre-season training and ahead of what is a very important season for Leeds United in the Championship.”

Safe bet

With the objective to get out of the Championship, Farke, Parker and Corberan are well versed in what it takes to get the job done, whilst the current West Brom boss has a prior link to Elland Road, having been part of the set-up under Marcelo Bielsa.

It is one thing to be a solid experienced coach, but it is just as important that the squad at their disposal is up to the task of a long, arduous Championship season, with the 46 league fixtures coming in addition to responsibilities in the cup competitions.

There is no such thing as a safe bet in this division but the merit is clear in making an appointment from the trio named above.

Leeds fans can finally start to look forward, with a sense of optimism and a new beginning now that there is a fresh sense of direction at the club. That will only be enhanced with a new head coach to lead the charge on the pitch.
