Phil Hay delivers update on Nketiah injury after Leeds striker suffers abdominal pain

You couldn’t make it up. After looking like he was going to get his first Championship start for Leeds against QPR on Saturday, Eddie Nketiah missed the game after suffering abdominal pain on Friday.

Talking in his post-match press conference, Marcelo Bielsa confirmed the injury but said he didn’t know how serious it was.

“Last night after training he went home, he had a pain in his abdomen,” Bielsa said. “At this moment we don’t know if he’s good or not.”

Writing in a Q&A in The Athletic, though, Phil Hay said, “Our understanding is that he’ll be out for around four weeks.”

There was more bad news from Bielsa too, who confirmed that Jamie Shackleton had also suffered an injury in training on Friday.

“Jamie had a problem in the quads in training on Friday and he couldn’t play today.”

It’s really bad luck for Nektiah and Bielsa confirmed that the Arsenal loanee was due to start on Saturday against QPR.

If he is out for four weeks then it’s a big blow to club and player, and it gives Bamford more time to end his drought and really cement his place in the first team.

Thankfully, Bamford was fit to play against QPR after suffering an ankle problem in the Sheffield Wednesday game.

He didn’t score although he did have one ruled out for offside and thankfully, this week, his misses didn’t matter.
