Leeds move too impressive – Ornstein makes big Man United claim over Augustin deal

The bad blood between Leeds United and Manchester United hasn’t dimmed in all the years we’ve been out of the Premier League.

And that will make the latest tweet from Athletic journalist David Ornstein all the sweeter for Leeds fans.

He said that Man United made a late enquiry for Jean-Kevin Augustin, but that the Leeds offer was “too advanced/impressive” for United to get a look-in.

Talking on the new episode of the Ornstein & Chapman podcast, Ornstein said that the Leeds move was “highly impressive” and that Bielsa was “absolutely key” to the deal going through.

“Leeds conducted the process diligently and very thoroughly,” Ornstein said. “Man United came to the table far too late and in far too disorganised a state.”

We’ve talked about the lure of Bielsa before but this is next level stuff.

Landing a player ahead of the Premier League giants shows just how far the club has come under Bielsa and also the loyalty shown by Augustin over the weekend when he signed.

Augustin spent the weekend liking tweets from the Leeds fans and Director of Football Victor Orta said that he was “honest” in the face of late interest from other clubs.

That one of the clubs was Man United will really please the Leeds fans.

Augustin has already endeared himself to the fans with his social media activity. This news will increase the love massively.
