Leeds loanee undergoes test after concussion scare, angry manager shares update
Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes has confirmed that loaned-out Leeds United striker Ryan Edmondson has passed head-knock protocol after a concussions scare at the weekend.
Edmondson, 19, was forced off the pitch 58 minutes into Aberdeen’s 3-3 draw with Celtic at Pittodrie on Sunday.
Celtic defender Shane Duffy clattered Edmondson into the advertisement hoardings at Pittodrie, which led to concerns about whether the teenager had suffered a head injury.
However, ahead of Aberdeen’s Scottish Cup semi-final clash with Celtic this Sunday, McInnes has confirmed that the Leeds loanee has passed a test to allow him to train on Thursday.
The Dons boss also revealed his anger over Duffy’s challenge.
“Ryan had to go through the test on Monday, but he’s absolutely fine,” said McInnes, as quoted by the Scottish Sun.
“When I looked back at the challenge, I wasn’t too happy with it. He got helped on his way and took a sore one.
“At Pittodrie, like a lot of grounds, there isn’t a lot of room between the pitch and walls where the supporters are.
“When you are going at full speed it can be a bit treacherous. Thankfully, he’s OK and seems fine.”
Aberdeen fans were less than pleased at the weekend when Duffy forced Edmondson into the advertising hoardings.
Duffy has had a tough start to life at Celtic Park and was clearly venting his frustration by looking as though he meant to injure the young Leeds striker.
Thankfully, Edmonson is fine to play this weekend and you can bet he will be more than up for playing against Duffy again and exposing the Celtic defender’s poor form.
Edmondson scored twice in Aberdeen’s win against Hamilton last week and might have ended up on the scoresheet if he wasn’t forced out of the action early on Sunday.
With a spot in the Scottish Cup final up for grabs this weekend, you can bet that the loaned-out Leeds forward will be more than ready to show everyone he has what it takes to stand up to Scottish football’s bully boys.
