Blackburn manager Tony Mowbray has confirmed loaned-out Leeds United left-back Barry Douglas is set for a scan on a muscle injury.
Douglas, 31, lasted just 14 minutes before being substituted off in Blackburn’s 2-1 win against Barnsley on Saturday.
It has now been confirmed that the Scottish left-back has suffered an injury but Mowbray is hopeful it’s only down to fatigue and nothing more serious.
Speaking to Blackburn’s official website after Rovers’ win at Ewood Park, Mowbray said: “Barry, he’s got an issue with his glute, the muscle in his backside was just uncomfortable for him.
“He’ll go for a scan and we’ll see if it’s a slight tear or whether it’s down to a big of fatigue. There are lots of fatigue injuries in football at the moment for every club.”
Douglas has had a stop-start start to life at Ewood Park since joining Blackburn on a season-long loan from Leeds United in October.
He’s made just six appearances in all competitions, missing three Championship fixtures earlier in the season due to being forced into self-isolation.
After his quarantine period ended, Douglas started and assisted a goal in the 1-1 draw with Luton before playing all 90 minutes of a huge 3-0 win away at Lancashire rivals Preston.
The game against Barnsley was the first time Douglas has stringed together three league starts this season but unfortunately, his day ended early due to his glute issue.
We hope Douglas is able to recover quickly and get back into Mowbray’s squad.
Blackburn have had a mixed start to the Championship season and it cannot help the Rovers manager to keep having key players missing matches.
Douglas is a good left-back and we Leeds fans want to see him perform well somewhere because of how much a role he played under Marcelo Bielsa at Elland Road.
In other Leeds United news, some fans have blasted this “selfish” Leeds player after what he did at Goodison Park on Saturday.
