Leeds loanee Gyabi shares what Wayne Rooney told him this week
Leeds United loanee Darko Gyabi has shared what Wayne Rooney told him earlier this week before he scored his first Plymouth goal.
The former Manchester City academy product bagged a goal in the 3-3 draw with Middlesbrough in his 31st appearance for Argyle.
The England under-21 international is expected to remain at Home Park for the rest of the season with Daniel Farke having no plans to recall him in January. [Beren Cross, 18 December]
The Plymouth Herald [23 December] shared what Gyabi revealed, as he said: “The gaffer (Wayne Rooney) was telling me after the Sheffield game to keep my head up, keep making those runs and keep getting in the box and it would come.
“I’m grateful it came on Saturday.”
Wayne Rooney giving advice to Leeds United talent
Keeping the young talent out on loan for the rest of the season makes sense for the Whites as there is no place for him in the first-team squad.
Ethan Ampadu has just returned to action, and Ao Tanaka and Joe Rothwell have been in inspired form over the past few months.
Therefore, it would be very hard for Gyabi to displace anybody in the Leeds engine room, he would be better served remaining on loan.

The Whites are more likely to add to their squad with external additions in January rather than recalling current loan players as they seek to gain promotion to the Premier League.
It would better serve both the players’ need for regular game time and the club’s need for proven reliable options in the middle of the park.
The situation can then be reassessed when he returns to Elland Road in the summer and he may find himself going on loan again.
In other Leeds news, the Whites have received a formal apology for a controversial incident in the draw with Preston last week.
