Leeds in talks to bring Brenden Aaronson to Elland Road this month
Leeds United are in talks with Austrian top-flight outfit RB Salzburg over a deal for midfielder Brenden Aaronson, according to Sky Sports News.
The Elland Road side want to sign a central midfielder this month and have set their sights on the American, 21.
Sky Sports News reported on their transfer centre last night (at 20:33, 18 January) that Aaronson’s old club Philadelphia Union would be due a significant percentage of any transfer fee for him after the MLS club inserted a sell-on clause into the deal that saw him move to Austria for £5million in January 2021.
Philadelphia Union manager Jim Curtin dubbed the youngster a “special” player last October, and it appears Leeds have been attracted to his talents.
Marcelo Bielsa is currently thin in the middle of the park with Kalvin Phillips still on the injury sidelines, while Adam Forshaw could not finish Sunday’s 3-2 win at West Ham.
The Argentine knows landing a new centre-midfielder is very important during the ongoing winter transfer window, and Aaronson’s qualities have caught his eyes.
Despite his tender years, the North American has established himself as a starter for both club and country, and he has what it takes to hit the ground running at Elland Road should a move work out this month.
Bielsa is not a huge fan of the January window as most of his signings often take time to adapt to his methods and training style, but Leeds have surely seen something in Aaronson that gives them confidence that he has everything it takes to make an instant impact.
They will now be hoping to convince Salzburg into doing business with them in the coming days.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites want to sign int’l striker on loan with move already made.
