Rangers captain James Tavernier makes Leeds United swipe at Manchester United
The 33-year-old is in his tenth season at Ibrox and is preparing for his first clash at Old Trafford since joining the Light Blues.
After coming through the Leeds academy between 2001 and 2008 before joining Newcastle United, there is an added incentive for the right-back to secure a win in the Europa League.
Speaking in his pre-match press conference on 22 January, he said: “It’s definitely special. Especially being a Leeds fan, playing against Manchester United it would be special [to win].
“I played here once a long time ago in the Carling Cup and lost so I’d like to come here and get a good win. I’m really excited.”

Given the rivalry between the Whites and United, there is little surprise that Tavernier wants to get one up on his boyhood club’s arch-enemy.
After making these comments ahead of the game, many supporters at Elland Road will be keen to keep up with the clash at Old Trafford to see if the Gers’ skipper can fulfil his dream.
