Leeds fans react to Meslier call-up

Goalkeeper Illan Meslier hasn’t made an appearance for Leeds yet, but his form for the Under-23s has seen him win his place back in the France Under-20 squad.

Meslier, who joined from FC Lorient on loan in the summer, was on the bench for the first eight Championship games of the season, while also putting in some impressive performances for Carlos Corberan’s second-string side.

However, he was dropped from the last two Leeds squads in favour of Kamil Miazek, although this is likely more down to Marcelo Bielsa having six loanees and just five spots available.

Jack Clarke has been put in the squad for the last two games and if Bielsa wants the attacker in there, Meslier is the fall guy.

However, as one fan pointed out, Meslier might well get a chance for Leeds sooner than he expected. He would have been referring to the FA investigation that’s currently hanging over the head of number one Kiko Casilla. He has been accused of racial abuse against Johnathan Leko in the game against Charlton and if found guilty will serve a minimum six-game ban.

The thinking is that Meslier would replace Casilla in goal for Leeds.

Meanwhile, in Instagram and Twitter posts on Thursday evening, Meslier sent a message to fans saying, “I’m very happy to be called to French team for two games against Norway and Sweden”.

Meslier has won four caps for the Under-20s but wasn’t in the squad for the last friendly against Solvenia.

Plenty of Leeds fans reacted on Twitter to the message, wishing him good luck, with some saying they can’t wait to see him between the sticks for Bielsa.
