Leeds fans baffled by Bellusci appearance in Sky Sports poll

Sky Sports appear to have lost the plot as former Leeds United flop Giuseppe Bellusci was included as an option to vote for in a best XI of free agents who are currently on the market.

Bellusci, 29, left Palermo at the end of last season and for some unexplainable reason, someone at Sky Sports News reckons that he is within a shout of being included at centre-back in their ‘Free Transfer XI’.

Sky Sports News’ official Twitter account posted the poll on Monday morning, with Bellusci up against ex-Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel and Belgian defender Thomas Vermaelen.

Of course, Vermaelen won the poll having had a career that has seen him play for Ajax, Arsenal and Barcelona, but Leeds fans were understandably baffled to see Bellusci included in the poll based on how horrific he was during his three-year stint at Elland Road.

Bellusci made 61 appearances across all competitions for the Whites and his time in Yorkshire was marred by suggestions that he was a disruptive influence in the dressing room and there was a rumour that he faked an injury in order to avoid playing against Charlton in 2015.

Before he left Elland Road, Bellusci was involved in a spat with the club’s supporters at a pre-season friendly against Guiseley [Yorkshire Evening Post].

He was roundly booed by Leeds fans during his appearance in that friendly match back in 2017 and not long after he had his contract terminated by the club.

So it is no surprise to see why the Elland Road faithful are shocked by Sky Sports’ poll.

Here is what some Leeds fans are saying about it on Twitter:

Maybe they should pick Champions League winner Gary Cahill, current Wales international Ashley Williams or even man-mountain Christopher Samba before considering Bellusci in any future discussion about free agent centre-backs.
