Leeds enquired about signing Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones on loan
Leeds United contacted Liverpool to enquire about the possibility of signing Curtis Jones on loan during the summer window, according to Goal.
The Whites sporting director Victor Orta personally got in contact with the Anfield outfit, but they rejected his request to take the 20-year-old English midfielder temporarily to Elland Road.
While competition for playing chances in the middle of the park is fierce at Liverpool, Jones remains very much a part of the Reds’ plans for the new season.
Turned down
It is no secret that Leeds wanted to strengthen in central midfield during the summer, but they were not able to make a signing in the department in the end.
The Whites were keen on Huddersfield Town ace Lewis O’Brien, but both clubs were not able to agree on a fee, and that saw a move collapse.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side ended up with Spanish left-back Junior Firpo and Welsh attacking midfielder Dan James as the only new faces brought in during the summer transfer window.
Liverpool were not keen to entertain a loan offer for Jones, but their academy graduate could have been a fine addition to the Leeds midfield.
While Adam Forshaw is now expected to provide cover for Kalvin Phillips this season, the Reds youngster would have been an exciting option for Bielsa to call upon.
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp insisted there is a lot to come from Jones in March, claiming his “potential is exceptional” [Liverpool Echo], and not many can argue after he weighed in with two goals and four assists in 29 games across the Champions League and Premier League last term.
