Leeds could yet terminate contract of Kiko Casilla

Leeds United finally look set to cut ties with Kiko Casilla this week after a nightmare couple of years.

The Spaniard is all but set to join La Liga side Elche in the search of first-team minutes after falling behind Illan Meslier.

After being found guilty of racist abuse two years ago, Casilla has been forced to play second fiddle, and only played in three Premier League games last season.

Although initial reports suggested it would only be a loan move, things appear as though they could change quickly.

The Yorkshire Evening Post has reported that there are suggestions Casilla could have his deal terminated early to make this an immediate permanent switch.

It would mean the Whites would have to agree to a severance deal with the big-name stopper, who is on big money at Elland Road.

Should Casilla be so desperate to earn first-team football elsewhere though, he may be tempted to accept a lower offer to cut ties with the Whites.

Smart.

Reports have suggested that Casilla is on £30,000-a-week at Elland Road, so paying off two years of that could cost over £3million before tax.

That would not be a sensible move, but given Marcelo Bielsa’s respect for the keeper and supposedly good relationship, he could be tempted to accept less.

Andrea Radrizzani will be weighing up his options over the next week, and whether or not cutting ties permanently would be a good business move.

Elche are said to be paying part of the keepers’ wages, so it may be safe just to let him run down this current deal but away from the club.

We expect any movement to happen soon with this one.
