Leeds United have burst onto the scene in the past 24 hours to sign Spurs defender Japhet Tanganga, according to Tutto Mercato Web.

The Italian outlet has reported on its website that AC Milan are pushing for a loan-to-buy deal for the Englishman in the hope of beating rival Premier League interest.

It is shared that Leeds have crashed into the race alongside Newcastle and Everton who both have held a long-standing interest in Tanganga this summer.

Jesse Marsch has seen his defensive options take a hit over pre-season, with some big injuries.

Liam Cooper, Luke Aying and Junior Firpo all joined Stuart Dallas in the treatment room, with none of those four having featured in a Premier League matchday squad so far this season.

The Whites smashed Chelsea 3-0 on Sunday afternoon [21 August], but had little-to-no defensive experience on the bench in the form of Leo Hjelde and Cody Drameh.

Tanganga could be a smart move if Leeds can secure a loan with a future option to buy.

Spurs have used the young defender sparingly, but he has been trusted by the likes of Antonio Conte and Jose Mourinho during his time at the club.

The defender can play centrally as well as at left-back, and that versatility behind our current options in both areas could come in handy more times than not at Elland Road.

Victor Orta and Andrea Radrizzani have backed Jesse Marsch to improve his squad depth immensely over the summer, and we are a couple of new faces away from having the perfect window.

Losing Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha has not deterred us, and in fact, has put us in a position to strengthen the squad immensely, but now it is time to finish off the window strongly.

Could Tanganga kickstart a very busy week at Elland Road?
