Leeds boss Daniel Farke called out on Sky Sports over Liverpool player remark
Sky Sports News presenter Nick Powell took a jokey swipe at Leeds United boss Daniel Farke over a comment he made regarding Virgil van Dijk.
Discussing Leeds’ transfers business at his pre-Harrogate Town news conference on Thursday (9 January), Farke said it is not possible for clubs to sign a player of Van Dijk’s quality in January.
However, Liverpool did exactly that when signing the centre-back from Southampton in the winter window seven years ago.
After listening to Farke’s comments, Powell responded on Sky Sports News [9 January, 3:30pm]: “Van Dijk did join Liverpool in a January transfer window, but let’s not be picky.”
Leeds United transfer latest
It goes without saying that Leeds will not be signing a player of Van Dijk’s quality, but nor do they need to at this stage.
The current Leeds squad is strong enough to retain its position at the top of the Championship, but one or two additions would be welcomed at Elland Road.
Jeremias Ledesma, a player not many would have heard of this time yesterday, appears to be close to joining from River Plate [Soy del Millo].
Another name mentioned with regards to a move to Leeds is Emmanuel Latte Lath of Middlesbrough [GiveMeSport], who really would be a superb addition up top.
Despite having an array of attacking talents to call upon, Farke will be eager to bring in a proven and prolific goalscorer at this level as the final piece to the jigsaw.

Farke will certainly hope he is backed by the board, with this season once again promotion or bust, and there really can be no excuses.
There are still a few weeks of the window to go, so let’s just hope the fans get what they want and a signing is announced soon.
In other Leeds United news, Farke has reacted to exit talk regarding goalkeeper Illan Meslier.
