Leeds begin Daniel Farke replacement search after ‘significant’ events as sources speak out
Daniel Farke’s future as Leeds United manager remains uncertain, despite Wednesday’s 3-1 win over Chelsea.
Farke went into the game under huge pressure at Leeds after a four-game losing run that had seen the Whites drop into the relegation zone.
However, Leeds beat Chelsea at Elland Road to climb out of the bottom three on goal difference and temporarily ease the pressure on Farke.
But Farke‘s job is not entirely safe for now – anything but, in fact – if an update shared on Thursday morning is anything to go by.
Fresh Daniel Farke sack uncertainty after Chelsea win
Leeds’ well-known rivalry with Chelsea made the win at Elland Road all the more special, with the Blues’ title hopes taking a massive battering.
The win came amid the backdrop of serious uncertainty over Farke’s future, with many pondering if he would be given one game or two.
Even after beating Chelsea, Leeds chiefs are on the lookout for a replacement.
That is according to Sami Mokbel, who reported via sources for the BBC on Thursday that “the process of identifying potential candidates to replace Farke has begun.”
Mokbel added that “it is not unusual practice for clubs to plot a succession plan for their managerial position” even when a manager is currently in place.
Farke’s future is still in doubt due to coming under “significant” pressure during that recent worrying downturn in results and performances.
Gary O’Neil and the other names mentioned for Leeds United job
Reports emerged hours before kickoff at Elland Road that Gary O’Neil is now one of the leading contenders to succeed Farke.
Ange Postecoglou, Bo Svensson and Brendan Rodgers have also been touted as options for the 49ers if and when they do pull the trigger on Farke.
| Club | Period in charge | Games | Wins | Win % |
| Borussia Dortmund II | November 2015 – May 2017 | 56 | 29 | 51.79 |
| Norwich City | May 2017 – November 20121 | 208 | 87 | 41.83% |
| Krasnodar | January 2022 – March 2022 | N/A | N/A | N/A |
| Leeds United | July 2023 – Present | 119 | 65 | 54.62 |
All this, remember, while Farke is in a job. Still, the owners cannot be blamed for being proactive and getting options lined up.
It may come across as being disrespectful, but when Farke does go, a replacement needs to be brought in quickly so Leeds do not waste any time.
With the games coming thick and fast over Christmas and the New Year, it may well be that Farke’s successor is already lined up to go.
