Leeds: BBC pundit hails Glen Kamara’s ‘aggressiveness’, betters Ethan Ampadu in one key area

Glen Kamara can make passes that Ethan Ampadu can’t at Leeds United, according to Leigh Bromby.

Speaking on BBC Radio Leeds (7 October), the pundit raved about Kamara’s “aggressiveness” in attempting to reclaim possession, while his ability to press has been impressive.

Bromby claimed that the Finnish international perhaps covers for the Welshman’s passing lapses, suggesting the midfield pair can operate well together.

Bromby said: “I think today he knitted a lot together. His industry in terms of trying to win the ball back, his aggressiveness in trying to win the ball back, setting the press was really good, but also with the ball.

“He made the passes that maybe Ampadu can’t make.”

Excellent partnership

Many questioned if Kamara would have a significant impact at Elland Road. Despite a wealth of experience gained from Rangers, the 27-year-old ended his spell at Ibrox in questionable fashion but has since proved to be an important component of Daniel Farke’s midfield.

Kamara’s passing ability has translated well from the Scottish top flight to the English second division. Per FBRef, Kamara has earned 90.3 per cent passing accuracy while 94.7 per cent short passing accuracy makes him the third best in the Leeds side on this metric.

Ampadu has been an even more effective summer signing for Leeds. He has had much longer to settle into the side than Kamara, but he has established himself as one of the first names on Farke’s teamsheet, playing the joint-top most 90s in the squad.

The Welshman is still just 23 and will likely improve even more this season with experienced professionals around him, including Kamara. While he may not quite have the passing penetration of his midfield partner just yet, he will continue to learn.

In other Leeds United news, Phil Hay claims that big European clubs have been keeping tabs on a Whites player for a while and are still willing to sign him.
