Leeds are interested in Brest midfielder Romain Faivre

Leeds United have been monitoring Brest player Romain Faivre for several months, according to L’Equipe.

The French club value the 22-year-old at around €20million, the equivalent of £17m.

The Whites face a battle to land his signature as Inter Milan are long-term admirers, while Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Dortmund are also interested.

Faivre has been described as a “revelation” by national media in France, per the Mirror, while Le10 Sport have linked PSG and Manchester United to the youngster.

Faivre is a France U21 international and has five goals and three assists in 28 games for mid-table Brest, and he can also operate as a centre-forward or second striker, per Transfermarkt.

Shades of Raphinha

After the success of signing Raphinha last summer, it seems Leeds are keen to land another gem from Ligue 1.

The only worry is that this time the target is also on the radar of several major European clubs.

Faivre seems to be a winger in a similar mould to Raphinha too.

The Brazilian has provided a few extra goals and assists but Faivre shares his flair and ability on the ball, underlined by his average of 3.7 dribbles per game (WyScout).

According to stats by WhoScored, the winger also averages 1.9 key passes and, with him and Raphinha, we would carry a significant threat to Premier League defences.

Faivre’s presence would also reduce the pressure on Raphinha to perform.

At £17m he’d cost the same as the 24-year-old and we always back a potential bargain.

However, we hope this possible move does not detract from investing in other areas of the squad.

Victor Orta must make sure we add a new left-back and central midfielder to the squad over the summer – a back-up to Patrick Bamford would also be nice.
