Leeds approach top-4 PL club over potential deal to sign energetic midfielder – report
Leeds United have approached Chelsea with an enquiry about midfield ace Conor Gallagher, according to the Daily Mail.
The newspaper claims that Gallagher, 20, is set to hold talks about his future at Chelsea, who finished fourth in the Premier League, in the coming days as clubs queue up to try and sign him ahead of next season kicking off in September.
It is understood that Leeds are one of a number of Premier League and Championship clubs who have asked about Gallagher, who shone while on loan at both Charlton and Swansea last season in the second-tier.
Across his spells at both clubs, Gallagher made 47 appearances, scored six goals and supplied 11 assists as he played as either a central or attacking midfielder.
The Daily Mail adds that the England Under-21 international is more likely to be sent out on loan than sold permanently at this stage and with Leeds already set to re-sign Jack Harrison on loan from Manchester City, they will fill their Premier League loan quota if they land Gallagher too.
Marcelo Bielsa’s midfield is an area of the squad that could do with some added strength in depth.
Adam Forshaw’s going to be back to fitness before next season kicks off but there were still times last term when players like Stuart Dallas, Ben White and Pascal Struijk were drafted into the midfield to fill voids.
However, Bielsa doesn’t mind this. He loves the versatility that his players have shown amid having a very small squad of senior players.
Gallagher is also versatile.
He’s played as a defensive, central and attacking midfielder in the last year while he has also played a few times on both wings.
Gallagher’s a good young player who is described as “energetic” by the Mail but we would much rather see Leeds sign him permanently than on loan.
Why should Bielsa keep being used to improve other clubs’ players?
In other Leeds United news, fans are baffled by Phil Hay’s update on Bielsa’s transfer approach.
