‘Leeds ain’t that good’ – Simon Jordan takes swipe at Leeds & Bielsa in talkSPORT rant
Ex-Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan has hit out at those who eulogise Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa, claiming that the Whites “ain’t that good”.
On Monday night, Leeds suffered a 4-1 defeat at the hands of Leicester City at Elland Road with Harvey Barnes and Jamie Vardy getting on the scoresheet and Youri Tielemens scoring a brace.
Stuart Dallas netted what turned out to be a consolation goal for the Whites in the second half but with Leeds still finding their feet in the Premier League and Leicester being recent top-flight champions, there are not too many fans who are alarmed by what happened on Monday.
However, for some reason, Jordan seems to think that everyone sees Monday night’s result as some kind of shock or upset because people rate Bielsa highly.
Sure, Leeds are in good form and could have won that game. But Leicester were the favourites and there’s no denying that from Leeds fans.
Jordan seems to have heard nothing but surprise to the 4-1 defeat and has decided to hit out at Bielsa and the club in a rant on talkSPORT.
“We speak about Bielsa because of Leeds because Leeds are this huge football club that have been in the doldrums for 16 years, Bielsa’s come in and woken them all up,” Jordan said on talkSPORT, as shown on the radio station’s official Twitter account on Tuesday.
“I’m not a Bielsa acolyte, I think he’s a great coach. I don’t bow at the temple of Bielsa like all of these other managers seem to do – Pep Guardiola or Mauricio Pochettino or whoever else it is that is currently eulogising this guy.
“I don’t see that result as a surprise last night. Why is it a surprise?
“Elland Road is not a fortress because there are no fans there, Leeds are a promoted side, Leicester are an established, bonafide, top-six-contending Premier League side, Brendan Rodgers is an elite manager. Why would that result be a surprise to people?
“Leeds ain’t that good.”
We don’t understand what point Jordan is trying to make here.
Does he disagree with Guardiola and Pochettino’s claims that Bielsa is “the best coach in the world“?
While we will listen to Jordan all day long about the financial side of football and issues regarding ownership and big decisions in the broader game, we just cannot listen to him when it comes to talking about management.
Why? Because he’s not a manager or a coach.
We will listen to Jordan if he had a point to criticise Andrea Radrizzani but we won’t take any offence to him rubbishing claims from Guardiola and Pochettino about Bielsa.
Also, where has he heard that Leeds were the massive favourites for Monday night’s game? We all knew it was going to be a very, very tough fixture at Elland Road.
No one underestimated Leicester but Jordan is underestimating Leeds.
In other Leeds United news, Bielsa doesn’t want this 27-year-old at training anymore as he wants to leave Elland Road for good.
