Leeds 18y/o may earn 2nd senior app within next two weeks – Phil Hay
Charlie Cresswell could earn his second senior appearance for Leeds United when they take on Crawley in the FA Cup next month, according to The Athletic’s Phil Hay.
On Sunday, Hay was asked whether Cresswell, 18, and Oliver Casey were close to getting any first-team minutes.
Hay wrote on The Athletic website: “The FA Cup maybe? They must be next in line if Bielsa’s CB options get any thinner (which hopefully they don’t).”
Bielsa to mix things up v Crawley
Leeds have not progressed too far in the cups while Marcelo Bielsa has been in charge at Elland Road.
In his debut season at the club, Leeds were knocked out of the FA Cup third round by QPR and beat Bolton in the first round of the Carabao Cup before being beaten by Preston.
Last term, the Whites were beaten by Arsenal in the FA Cup third round and after beating Salford in the Carabao Cup first round, they were knocked out on penalties by Stoke.
Leeds were beaten on penalties by Hull in their one and only Carabao Cup game this term so for all the good Bielsa has done at Elland Road, something he hasn’t mastered yet is getting results in the cups.
With it looking unlikely that Leeds will be relegated this season, we wouldn’t be against Bielsa playing a full-strength team against Crawley in two weeks’ time.
However, we would also like to see young players like Cresswell and Casey get more minutes in the first-team and with so many defensive injuries this term, they could be called upon soon in the Premier League.
Maybe a game against Crawley will better prepare them for a possible call-up to first-team duty in the top-flight.
In other Leeds United news, fans were raving about this “MOTM” in the win against Burnley.
