Lee Dixon reacts to incident in Leeds United v Arsenal

Lee Dixon was left baffled by an incident involving Leeds United right-back Cody Drameh and Arsenal’s Gabriel Martinelli.

The Leeds debutant appeared to brush past the Brazilian in the first half, and his arm caught the Arsenal man very lightly in Whites’ the 2-0 defeat away at the Emirates.

Martinelli then fell to the floor, clutching his face as though he’d been hit by a car, and Andre Marriner stopped the game for a head injury.

Speaking on the BBC, he said: “Andre Marriner could not have had a better view of that. He’s six yards away from it.

“It’s nothing. He catches him, but there’s no malice. It’s not a foul for me.”

Dixon is spot on.

This incident was actually described as “embarrassing” by the BBC’s live text feed, and it really was pretty pathetic.

The 19-year-old right-back barely touched his man, and Martinelli threw himself to the floor.

We are pleased that the referee didn’t decide to take any further action, which he could have done given Martinell’s reaction

Drameh did well on his debut against a good Premier League team and looked solid if unspectacular.

The biggest thing you could say is that it looked like he had been playing in Premier League for a long time, and the future looks very bright for the former Fulham player.

However, he couldn’t help the Whites win as they slipped to a 2-0 defeat at the Emirates despite playing relatively well in the first half.

This was an odd incident involving Drameh and Martinelli, but luckily, it had no impact on the match, and Drameh performed well while he was on the pitch.

In other Leeds United news, Lee Hendrie wasn’t impressed with one Whites player against Arsenal.
