Lee Bowyer issues Leeds United come-and-get-me managerial plea live on talkSPORT

Lee Bowyer would “jump at the chance” to fill the managerial vacancy at Leeds United after Sam Allardyce’s exit.

The former Whites midfielder was in discussion with talkSPORT host Jim White about the vacant role at Elland Road.

The West Yorkshire outfit are currently without a manager following their relegation from the Premier League.

“If the phone call came, you’d jump at it?” host White asked Bowyer live on talkSPORT.

Bowyer replied: “Oh for sure. Obviously I have a connection with the club and I understand the club, and I think that’s important for whoever goes in there next.

“But if I got the call, I’d love to go there and get that club going again, and get the fans onside and get the place bouncing again. I would definitely jump at the chance for sure.”

Huge job

Bowyer certainly knows the club well from his time there as a player, with the Whites perhaps needing someone of his ilk to come and do a decent job at Elland Road.

The club is in disarray in just about every way possible, with their issues made worse of course following their relegation to the Championship.

A fresh start is needed in various aspects, but they could definitely give themselves a leg up by appointing a manager who knows how things work behind the scenes at the West Yorkshire outfit.

Whether or not they give Bowyer a call in the near future remains to be seen, but they could definitely do a lot worse than hiring the former Charlton and Birmingham manager.

Whoever comes in, they have a huge challenge on their hands, with plenty of pressure on their shoulders to fire the club back into the top flight at the first time of asking.

In other Leeds United news, one Whites player is weighing his options ahead of a potential summer exit.
