Laurens De Bock to leave Leeds United ‘quietly’ at end of the season – Phil Hay

Phil Hay has shared that Leeds United defender Laurens De Bock will leave the club “quietly” once the season has finished at the end of this month.

The Athletic journalist has reported the news with the Belgian will finally see his four-yeal deal at Elland Road expire after yet another failed loan spell away from the club.

Leeds don’t have many other major contracts expiring, with Nohan Kenneh potentially being offered a new deal to stick around beyond this year.

Writing in a free-agents special for The Athletic, Hay shared the plans at Thorp Arch for those who could be looking for new clubs this summer.

“Most people will have forgotten that Laurens De Bock is even on the books at Leeds,” he wrote.

“He signed in January 2018, played seven times and has never been seen since. He’s on loan at the fourth different club in four years and will leave quietly at the end of the season.”

Good riddance.

Letting De Bock go quietly and not making a big scene of it is certainly the best way to go.

Leeds know they made a massive mistake by bringing him in all those years ago, and his seven appearances for the club make that very clear before he was shipped away numerous times.

Jesse Marsch won’t even give him a chance at Thorp Arch, just like Marcelo Bielsa, and we will finally not be wasting money paying the wages of a player who has never given anything back.

Kenneh is one who certainly deserves the chance with another contract with his shining performances for the under-23s and constant place on the senior bench.

Marsch has already spoken about how he wants to progress the under-23s, and keeping players like Kenneh around is the way to keep building that with some consistency.

As for De Bock, we are already counting down the days until he finally leaves the club in two weeks’ time.
