Largie Ramazani avoids ‘disastrous’ moment in Leeds United v Sheffield Wednesday

Graham Smyth has joked that Largie Ramazani avoided a “disastrous” moment during his Leeds United celebration against Sheffield Wednesday.

While Manor Solomon’s 3rd-minute striker gave Daniel Farke’s side a slim advantage on 19 January, it was not until Largie Ramazani netted just four minutes into his cameo that the pressure was truly gone.

Of course, Ao Tanaka put the icing on the cake with a smart flicked shot to deceive James Beadle, though it was Ramazani’s somersault celebration that seemed to grab the headlines at Elland Road.

Speaking via The Square Ball podcast [20 January], Smyth joked: “He had to make sure the substitutes gave him room. They had to prepare the landing strip.

“Because, for a moment, it looked like they were encroaching on the potential landing area, which would have been disastrous. They could have been bringing out the stretcher had that gone wrong.”

Leeds United nerves coming through during Sheffield Wednesday clash

Smyth is, obviously, kidding but his teammates certainly do need to keep an eye out when Ramazani runs off to celebrate his goals at Elland Road.

With five goals in 17 appearances since joining from Almeria during the summer, the somersault is likely to be seen a lot more between now and the end of the current campaign.

Without Ramazani’s introduction in the 84th minute, Farke’s side could have been holding on for dear life until the final whistle against the Owls, but all fans suddenly relaxed as the winger fired home.

Given that the 23-year-old started on the bench last time out, it just goes to show how talented the squad are, and why missing out on promotion to the Premier League will be allowed no excuses.

Brenden Aaronson, Dan James and Solomon are all currently the first-choice forwards to join Joel Piroe in attack, and that lineup seems to be getting the deed done so far this season.
