LAFC now finalising Mateusz Bogusz move from Leeds United after UD Ibiza terminate loan deal

LAFC are now finalising the deal to sign Leeds United youngster Mateusz Bogusz after UD Ibiza released him from his loan, Tom Bogert reports.

The 21-year-old has been with the Spanish second tier side for the past two seasons but they announced on their official website on Friday (24 March) that they had terminated the agreement because “we cannot have players in our squad who are not totally committed to the team”, because the “shield of the Sports Union Ibiza is above all”.

Their announcement noted the player’s wish to sign for an MLS club, and US reporter Bogert’s sources indicate that is in its final stages.

The Bleacher Report journalist wrote posted on Twitter Thursday: “BREAKING: LAFC are finalizing a deal to sign Poland youth int’l midfielder Mateusz Bogusz from Leeds United, per sources.

“Bogusz, 21, was on loan with Ibiza but agreements reached for him to leave early and sign with LAFC now. 18 caps with Poland U21s.”

Matter of time

Judging by the wording of their statement it doesn’t sound like Ibiza are as positive about the situation as they might have been, but have been convinced to play ball thanks to adequate compensation.

It isn’t hard to see why Bogusz would want to make the move, because the defending MLS champions on the West coast of the US is a big step up in profile from a relegation battle in the Spanish second tier, even if he has struck lucky weather-wise in both cases.

It’s perhaps a surprise that a club on the up such as LAFC have chased the attacking midfielder as much as they have, given he has been a forgotten man at Elland Road for some time, but clearly they have seen something they like.

It looks like the Whites, the MLS side, and the player are set to reach a satisfactory conclusion, with the Spanish island outfit perhaps slightly begrudgingly playing along.

Moving on players who things haven’t quite worked out for in West Yorkshire is as important as bringing in targets that do, so getting some return on Bogusz is a positive.

And it looks like only a matter of days, if not hours, until the final stage of the three-party arrangement is confirmed.

In other Leeds United news, a world-renowned manager has not been impressed by what he has seen from one Whites player.
