Labour MP points finger at Wayne Rooney after what Leeds did on Saturday

Wayne Rooney was in the firing line as a Labour MP took an indirect dig at him as Leeds United sealed the Championship title.

Daniel Farke, despite his critics after his first season at Elland Road, managed to deliver what he said he would and took the Whites back to the Premier League.

However, he still faces an uncertain future in West Yorkshire and a sack cannot yet be ruled out.

Plymouth Argyle’s relegation pinned on Rooney by Luke Pollard

Luke Pollard, the Labour MP for Plymouth Sutton and Devonport, blames Rooney for the first half of the season when he was in charge of Plymouth.

This comes after the Whites beat them 2-1 at Elland Road on Saturday.

In his view, once the Manchester United legend was sacked and Miron Muslic was brought in, things appeared to look a lot better.

As the Pilgrims ended up getting relegated, Pollard believes that had Muslic been in charge earlier, things would have been a lot different.

Leeds and Burnley ended the season level on points.

However, he’s optimistic that they’ll secure promotion from League One and become a mid-table Championship side.

Pollard wrote on X: “Gutted we are going down. The second half of the season has shown we had a team and a manager with the skill to keep us up. Just a shame the first half of the season sent us down.

“Argyle should be a good mid-table Championship side. We will be back!”

Leeds United secure a much-deserved promotion

Plymouth’s decision to hire Rooney as manager was a gamble that backfired, as his dismal managerial track record, marked by struggles at Derby County, D.C. United, and Birmingham City, foreshadowed the team’s poor performance in the first half of the season.

Rooney’s tenure saw Plymouth concede heavily, with a league-worst 38 goals and a string of humiliating defeats, ultimately setting the stage for their relegation to League One.

Pollard’s criticism of Rooney highlights the consensus that his leadership doomed the Pilgrims early on.

Meanwhile, Leeds, under Farke, secured a well-deserved promotion to the Premier League, amassing 100 points and clinching the Championship title with a 2-1 win at Plymouth.

Despite Farke’s success, his future remains uncertain, with a potential sack still looming as Leeds evaluate their Premier League strategy.
