LA Clippers star Russell Westbrook confirms Leeds United investment news
LA Clippers star Russell Westbrook has confirmed investment in Leeds United, according to Sportico reporter Eben Novy-Williams.
The latter noted that the former revealed he is part of the investor group led by the San Franciso 49ers that is taking over the Whites.
Westbrook joins the likes of US golfers Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas in investing, with the duo having bought shares in the club’s prospective owners [BBC Sport, 12 July].

“Russell Westbrook is part of the investor group (led by the 49ers) taking over Leeds United,” Novy-Williams wrote on Twitter.
“Westbrook just mentioned the Leeds United investment at an event co-hosted by Sportico/Variety.”
Big moves
After being made to wait for a very long time on takeover updates, Leeds fans are now getting constant positive news, with Westbrook the latest star athlete to get on board.
Whites fans cannot get too carried away, however, with the £170million deal from the 49ers Enterprises to buy the controlling stake of Andrea Radrizzani not yet ratified by the English Football League.
But the current situation is definitely an upgrade on previous circumstances, even when the agreement needed to be recalculated following the club’s relegation from the Premier League.
That demotion has certainly had an impact on things, with top US golfer Rickie Fowler deciding against buying shares, unlike his peers Thomas and Spieth.
It may have been a blow to the Whites, but this latest news from Westbrook will be welcomed with open arms, with the NBA star currently the 14th highest-paid athlete in the world [Forbes, 15 May].
In other Leeds United news, £10million exit news has emerged for one Premier League player wanted by the West Yorkshire club.
