Kristoffer Klaesson to be in Leeds United squad v Rotherham as early team news emerges

Daniel Farke is set to name youngster Kristoffer Klaesson in his Leeds United squad to face Rotherham United on Friday night, report Leeds-Live.

Writing on their website (24 November), the news outlet report that the boss has taken a 25-man squad to Rotherham with several players named as doubts ahead of the game due to injury.

And rarely-seen Klaesson, who hasn’t made an appearance yet this season, is one of those named in the squad and could be set for a shock appearance on the bench potentially.

Question marks

Leeds have got a lot of injury problems again and while minor, that could disrupt the team ahead of a game that they will be keen on winning to keep their pre-international break momentum going.

Daniel James, Wilfried Gnonto, Joe Rodon and Ethan Ampadu all played as recently as Tuesday night for their international teams and won’t have had a training session since returning, while Georginio Rutter is suffering from an abdominal strain too.

But the inclusion of Klaesson in the squad seems more like something that is just a case of being safe in case something were to happen to Illan Meslier or Karl Darlow in the build-up to the game so that the squad isn’t left short.

Klaesson is clearly the third choice goalkeeper at the club and nothing will have happened over the international break to see him promoted up a place or two.

The squad is still strong enough, even with the issues we’ve got ahead of this game, to go to the New York Stadium and get all three points to then start preparing for the run of fixtures ahead of the new year.
