Kristoffer Klaesson salary reveal after Leeds United transfer announcement
Kristoffer Klaesson has admitted that he has taken a “step down” in his salary following his transfer from Leeds United.
This comes after the goalkeeper sealed his move to Polish side Rakow Czestochowa [Nettavisen, 6 July] after which Norwegian outlet VG asked him whether he’d taken a wage cut following this move.
“I don’t really want to comment on salary,” he said. “It’s a step down, but I get to develop more in everyday life as a goalkeeper. Raków wants to win titles and I feel I can help them with that.”
Why did Leeds United let Kristoffer Klaesson go?
The Norwegian was bought by the Whites when they were back in the Premier League and has spent the vast majority of his time in West Yorkshire on the bench.
In fact, throughout his three-year stay, the ‘keeper only managed a total of four appearances.
One of which did come during the 2021/22 season when the Whites found themselves in the Premier League but alas, at the age of 23, the Oslo-born goalkeeper needs regular first-team football.
One of the main reasons why the former Valerenga man hasn’t represented the whites of Leeds much is the fact that the club has always had a backup goalkeeper that they deemed stronger, Karl Darlow the most recent example.

And, with the potential of Illan Meslier departing Elland Road this summer still rife [David Ornstein, 2 July], Daniel Farke needs someone he can rely upon.
Although the move is somewhat unorthodox, the fact that he will be getting regular football could result in him being called up to Norway’s international squad and perhaps even getting a move to another European club, should his form be good.
