Kobbie Mainoo exit update emerges from Man United after ambitious Leeds approach

Kobbie Mainoo was linked with a move to Leeds United this summer.

Deadline day has brought nothing but panic for Leeds United fans so far, though it will certainly not be an unfamiliar feeling.

Ten new arrivals have checked in at Elland Road so far, with the 49ers looking to add one or two more if the opportunity emerges.

Emi Buendia was linked with a move to Elland Road, though that deal is now looking unlikely, with a new update emerging on the future of Mainoo at Man United.

Man United block Kobbie Mainoo exit

MOT Leeds News revealed that Leeds were looking to strike a deal to sign Mainoo, in what would have been an ambitious piece of business.

However, as per Fabrizio Romano on X, the Red Devils have since closed the door to an exit for Mainoo, despite the Englishman having asked to leave on loan.

Romano said: “The case is closed. Mainoo stays at Man United this season despite a request to leave on loan.”

A move to Leeds now appears entirely off the cards, and if Daniel Farke is to see another midfielder arrive, they will have to look elsewhere.

Ethan Ampadu’s injury concerns at Leeds could force the Whites into a late deal, but as things stand, it seems like the 49e4rs are contempt with the midfield options at Farke’s disposal.

It’s clear that work is being done on the addition of a new forward, though with just over four hours until the deadline, time is running out.

Will Leeds sign another midfielder on Monday?

When fit, Farke has some very good options.

Sean Longstaff has already shown good signs at Leeds, with Anton Stach, Ao Tanaka, Ampadu and Ilia Gruev all competing for a starting place.

However, two of those are injured in Ampadu and Tanaka, while concerns have already been raised over Gruev’s ability in the Premier League.

At this point, Leeds would take anyone; that is the type of day it has been so far.

The priority has to be another attacking signing, with the 49ers under pressure to deliver.
