Klich accepts new Leeds deal

Mateusz Klich has accepted a new contract offer from Leeds United and will join Kalvin Phillips, Liam Cooper, Stuart Dallas and Luke Ayling in committing his long-term future to the club.

That’s the latest news from Football Insider, who claim he will get a solid pay increase when he signs the new deal.

Klich’s career at Leeds has been transformed by manager Marcelo Bielsa.

He signed from FC Twente in the summer of 2017 but only made five appearances in the Championship, including just one start, before he was shipped out on a second-half of the season loan to Utrecht.

When he returned his future at Leeds was uncertain but Marcelo Bielsa recognised his talent and since then he is the only Leeds player to have started every single Championship match for the club.

That’s an amazing run of 56 games that’s seen him become an absolutely vital cog in the Bielsa machine.

Graphics from All Stats Aren’t We show Klich was creating more chances than any other player in the Championship this season, with eight key passes in the first six games of the season.

He’s scored one goal and one assist but he’s not only the victim of Leeds not converting chances this season, but one of the offenders too. Stats from WyScout show his xG (expected goals) is 3 and his xA (expected assists) at 2.69.

Hopefully, Leeds will start realising their true attacking potential as the season goes on.

Since Bielsa arrived at Leeds, Klich has also won his place back in the Poland squad and has played eight consecutive games for his country, bringing his total caps won to 21.
