Kiko Casilla to terminate contract at Leeds United, waiting for phone call to join club
Leeds United and Kiko Casilla are now going through the process of officially terminating his contract this summer, according to COPE.
The Spanish outlet has reported on their website that the £40,000-a-week [Football Insider] outcast now wants to join a team in his homeland of Spain, with one year left on his deal at Elland Road.
Casilla is said to be waiting for a phone call for his next club, and if that was Espanyol, he would leave at this very moment.
Speaking to COPE, Casilla shared a simple answer when quizzed on who could be his next move as he likely gets set for the final move of his career.
“If Espanyol calls me, I’ll go right now,” he said.
Unfortunately for him, he is not said to have maintained contact with those at his former club before he moved on the Real Madrid and then West Yorkshire.
Leeds owe Casilla nothing, and it is brilliant news to find out that this is finally coming to an end.
Andrea Radrizzani and Jesse Marsch have come to the right decision, and he certainly overstayed his welcome after being found guilty of racial abuse.
Raphinha is set to leave and Kalvin Phillips has already left, and that has delivered great sadness to each corner of Elland Road as we move into a new era.
Casilla moving on will not even get a second glance from anyone, and Illan Meslier will continue in that number one spot like nothing happened next season and beyond.
£40,000-a-week is a huge sum of money to save too, and adding that on top of what has already been brought in, Leeds can be very happy with their finances.
Talk of a new experienced goalkeeper arriving has been high this month, and with this situation finally being stored, we could expect to see some movement on that front.
One to watch.
