‘We have been told’ – Casilla details what he’s heard about Leeds return & playing without fans

Leeds United keeper Kiko Casilla has said that he can understand why the rest of this season’s games may have to be played behind closed doors.

However, he said that fans must be back for next season and that everyone in the game must understand how “fundamental” they are to football.

In an interview with Spanish outlet L’Esportiu, Casilla also revealed the players have been told they could return to training on May 16 and revealed he was in lockdown in England, not in Spain as some had suggested.

“The possibility of playing behind closed doors has been talked about,” Casilla said, “and if it has to be to end the season I can understand it. But for next season, all the parties must come together and understand that fans are fundamental in all this.”

Asked about when the Championship was likely to return, Casilla said, “The Premier League and the Championship in general go alongside each other, we are pretty close and I have a feeling that whatever is done with the Premier will also apply to the Championship.

“For now, the only thing we have been told is that until May 16 we will not be able to train and this is a date that will depend a lot on how the virus evolves.”

Leeds fans are going to have to come to terms with the fact that the only way the Championship season ends is behind closed doors.

There’s simply no way that fans will be allowed back in stadiums for the foreseeable future and we don’t think it will happen until 2021.

If football doesn’t start again until 2021 then there’s a real possibility that this season will get voided and that would be catastrophic for Leeds.

There’s too much riding on this season and fans are going to have to accept that their promotion party at Elland Road will happen while Leeds are in the Premier League.
