Key Leeds united trio could leave if relegated in £100m+ windfall - Dean Jones

Dean Jones believes that Leeds United would need to cash in on their “big assets” should they drop down to the Championship.

As it stands, the Whites sit in 17th in the Premier League but are looking over their shoulder at Everton who have the opportunity to go above them should they win their game in hand.

Jones highlighted Kalvin Phillips, Raphinha and Illan Meslier as three players who could depart from Elland Road in a potential £100m+ windfall.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “If Leeds do go down, they can cash-in on those guys if need be – and probably would be – as well as probably the goalkeeper.

“They’re seen as their three big assets in terms of bringing in money.”

Worst case.

Hopefully, it doesn’t come to this because that would be an absolute disaster for Leeds.

Dropping down to the Championship is grim enough but the devastating impact it would have on the squad as teams across Europe look for a bargain would be unforgiving.

Players like Phillips, Meslier and Raphinha were instrumental in securing Premier League promotion a couple of seasons ago and you would hope they would stick around and do it again.

The key factor will be if anyone comes in for them. If an offer is tabled that is too good to turn down for the club or the player  – they will likely leave but it would be very disappointing to see any Whites player attempt to force a move if they do dropdown.

Marsch will be hoping it doesn’t come to that though with four games left to play.

It would be huge in footballing terms but if any player did leave, their top-flight status would add millions to their price tag.
