Kemar Roofe sends five-word message to Leeds fans when asked about promotion

Former Leeds United striker Kemar Roofe has sent a message to Whites fans saying the club deserves to be back in the Premier League.

On his Instagram story, Roofe also said that his favourite goal in his career was the last-gasp winner against Aston Villa in December 2018 that gave Leeds a 3-2 win.

Leeds looked like they would win promotion that season but dropped away at the end of the campaign and then lost to Derby in the play-off semis.

Ironically, Aston Villa went on to win promotion through the play-offs.

Roofe staged a fan Q&A on his Instagram account on Sunday and one of the questions was, “Do you think Leeds deserve to go up to the Premier League?”

Roofe responded with a five-word message fans will love, saying, “It’s where the club belongs.”

Roofe scored some crackers for Leeds but the Villa goal was the most memorable.

The game marked a complete turnaround for Leeds who went 2-0 down after just 17 minutes at Villa Park.

However, Jack Clarke scored a brilliant goal early in the second half to get Leeds back on track, before Pontus Jansson equalised and Roofe scored in the 95th minute to send the away fans wild.

That win put Leeds on top of the Championship table over Christmas with a six-point gap back to West Brom in third.

Sound familiar?

Villa were mired back in 11th spot but staged an unlikely second-half sprint to end in the play-off places and ultimately win promotion.

It was a real blow for Leeds and it would have been interesting to see if we’d have kept hold of Roofe if we’d got promoted.

His sale to Anderlecht was the right business at the time, with Bielsa choosing to go with Patrick Bamford as his number one striker this season.
