Kemar Roofe delivers verdict on Leeds striker Patrick Bamford

Kemar Roofe’s season is over after the Jupiler Pro League declared Club Brugge as champions with 11 games of the season left to play.

And the former Leeds United striker thinks it was the wrong decision to make.

Talking in the Sun, Roofe said, “You must finish the season or try to, otherwise I believe it’s not right to declare teams champions and promote and relegate clubs because there are too many games left to play.”

Talking about Leeds and the Championship, Roofe thinks that the EFL should go down one of two routes – play the remaining fixtures or declare the season null and void.

The first option would suit Leeds fans but the second would mean Leeds missing out on promotion.

“Null and void is a fairer way than not completing the season,” Roofe said.

“You just say the season didn’t exist and everything stays the same, no-one won anything, no-one lost anything. Then you scrap it and start the next season.”

Roofe also delivered his verdict on striker Patrick Bamford and the criticism he’s been getting.

He said, “Playing as a No9 is the hardest position on the pitch. It’s hard to get a top, top striker who can score week in, week out and when you can get one it’s expensive.

“It’s a bit unfair for him [Bamford] because he gets a lot of stick and sometimes he doesn’t deserve it.

“Bielsa keeps faith in him because he has that system and players that he trusts play in.”

Roofe was Leeds’ top scorer last season and Bielsa’s side might not have struggled so much in front of goal this campaign if he hadn’t made the move to Anderlecht last summer.

He got 14 goals in the 18/19 season with Patrick Bamford this season’s top scorer with 13.

Roofe’s season is over but we’re sure that Leeds fans won’t appreciate him saying that making the 19/20 season null and void is better than just calling the season as it stands at the moment.

He says that way “no one lost anything” but try telling that to Leeds fans, with their club seven points clear of Fulham in third.

We think the remaining fixtures have to be completed. If they can’t, Leeds should be promoted.
