Keith Hackett hits back at accusations after what he saw in Leeds United win v Sheffield Wednesday
Keith Hackett has praised referee Sam Allison for his performance during Leeds United’s win over Sheffield Wednesday on Friday night.
The Whites claimed a 2-0 win thanks to goals from Patrick Bamford and Wilfried Gnonto at Hillsborough in a game that didn’t have any real moments of controversy.
And that was down to the performance of the referee on the night according to former FIFA official Hackett, who took to his personal Twitter account (8 March) to praise him.
“I am often accused of failing to praise referees,” he wrote.
“Sam Allison delivered an outstanding performance in the match Sheffield Wednesday vs Leeds United.
“Well done to him and I hope that he gets another game in the Premier League.”
Leeds United win with minimal fuss
It’s been a long time since fans of any club can probably remember a match that their team was involved in where the referee didn’t try to be the star of the show.
Allison did a fantastic job during the game at Hillsborough where the fans were raucous and both passionate for their team to win, with some strong tackles and a good intensity to the game.
He allowed both teams to play, played advantage where it was warranted and stayed largely out of the way which is what you want from a referee.
With no contentious decisions to be made, Leeds were allowed to let their quality shine through on the pitch and it resulted in a strong performance and a convincing win.
If every game were like that then fans would be delighted and VAR would probably not be such a hot topic as it so often is, so well done to Sam Allison for making the game better.
