Leeds United have tabled a £25million bid plus add-ons to sign Juventus midfielder Weston McKennie, according to Kaveh Solhekol on January 26.
The Sky Sports journalist insisted that the Italian club want £30million, so the deal is still not close enough to be completed as things stand at Elland Road.
Leeds are not tempted to increase their bid just yet though, as they feel as though competition isn’t exactly fierce right now as the deadline approaches.
Solhekol shared the latest he has heard from Italy live on Sky Sports’ Transfer Show, as relayed on their live blog [26 January, 17:29] as the Whites look to close in.
“The latest we’re hearing from Sky Italy is that Leeds have offered £25m plus add-ons to Juventus for Weston McKennie,” he said.
“Juventus want £30m so it’s close but not close enough at the moment. Leeds aren’t tempted to raise their offer as they don’t feel they have much competition for the player.

“Reports in Italy say Leeds feel the deal could be done by Tuesday. Given Juventus’ financial problems, they aren’t in the market for a replacement but will focus on youth. They are prepared to let him go.”
With the add-ons taking it much closer to that £30million asking price, Leeds are ever so close to getting yet another inspired piece of business done this January.
Not only that, but it would mean that the previous transfer record before this month would end up being broken yet again if they do up their bid, although that isn’t likely right now.
Georginio Rutter has already become Leeds’ most expensive player this month, and with a handful of days left in this window, pressure could see McKennie overtake Rodrigo too.
The American is clearly wanted by Jesse Marsch and Victor Orta, and he wants to come to Elland Road to link up with the likes of Tyler Adams and Brenden Aaronson, the fee is the only hurdle left.
If the 49ers Enterprises or Andrea Radrizzani see time running out, they could no doubt throw a couple more million onto their offer and get this one done.
Given how close the two clubs are, it would be a huge shock to not see this one happen.
