Kaveh Solhekol details ‘best option’ if season doesn’t restart and what should happen to Leeds

Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol believes that Leeds United and West Brom should be handed automatic promotion to the Premier League if the season does not restart.

It was confirmed on Friday that football in the top four divisions has been suspended for the rest of the month but amid concerns about the rapid spread of the coronavirus, many fear that the scheduled return date of April 4 is too soon.

As it stands, Leeds occupy top-spot in the Championship, one point clear of second-placed West Brom, who are six points clear of third-placed Fulham.

Leeds and West Brom have been in the top-two almost all season and many have predicted that they should seal their returns to the Premier League without much of a hitch.

However this coronavirus-enforced break as thrown a major spanner into the works because the season might not be able to restart and that leaves huge questions about what will happen with teams like Leeds and West Brom, as well as runaway Premier League leaders Liverpool.

According to Solhekol, there should be a plan in place to have a 22-team Premier League next season with Liverpool awarded this season’s title and Leeds and West Brom handed promotion.

“Give title to Liverpool, no relegation, promote West Brom & Leeds and have 22-team Premier League next season. The best option if this season doesn’t re-start,” he said on his personal Twitter account in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Of course, we’re all Leeds supporters and this would be ideal for us but you have to think of teams that are in the play-off spots and how unfair this would be on them.

Brentford could have won their first-ever promotion to the Premier League this season.

Fulham could have secured an instant return that would have helped them massively on a financial scale.

And then there are the teams in the Premier League relegation spots who perhaps deserve relegation based on their poor performances this season. Do they really deserve to take part in a 22-team league next season?

There’s no easy resolution to all of this but the least controversial would be to play out the rest of this season at some other date and then deal with next season when it comes to it.

In other Leeds United news, Marcelo Bielsa could be making a huge mistake if he ignores his colleagues over this decision he’s made.
