Karen Carney was thrilled by Rodrigo’s first goal v Burnley
Karen Carney was stunned by Rodrigo’s first goal against Burnley as Leeds United cantered to a 4-0 win at Turf Moor.
The Spaniard showed the most delicate of touches to take Jack Harrison’s fizzed pass under control before lifting the ball over the onrushing Bailey Peacock-Farrell.
Rodrigo scored again moments later to take his goal tally to six in the Premier League and round off an impressive victory.
Appearing on BBC’s Match of the Day, Carney said, “The first touch there is exquisite and it’s a fantastic finish.”
Impressing Carney
Rodrigo must have pulled off an amazing bit of skill if Carney is delivering that kind of praise.
In the 4-0 win we showed the exact opposite of the burnout Carney and so many other pundits have spoken about.
If anything, our recent opponents, including Burnley and Tottenham, have looked more fatigued than us.
That is quite incredible given our small squad, the injuries we have sustained, and the fact we had no pre-season.
We have been brilliant this year and we continue to improve, which is the best thing.
Few other teams can compare to our trajectory under Marcelo Bielsa, and if we continue getting better we could qualify for Europe next season.
For that to happen we need Rodrigo to be a bit more consistent, as he clearly has to quality to score and create goals.
Victor Orta must strengthen our depth too, particularly in central midfield and up-front.
Manage that and 2021/22 promises to be the best season yet under Bielsa, and we cannot wait for it to kick off already.
