Karen Carney makes Willy Gnonto admission after what he did in Leeds United v Aston Villa
Karen Carney has been left gushing over Willy Gnonto after Leeds United suffered a 2-1 defeat against Aston Villa on 13 January.
The Italy international started the game on the left flank and proved to be a constant menace down that wing for the Villa defenders.
He did not get his name on the scoresheet but had plenty of opportunities to do so.
Speaking about him on Premier League Productions’ post-match show at 22:23, Carney said, “I really like him. I like his personality. He doesn’t care and I really like that. He’s a talented young player.”
Doing the right things
Gnonto’s signing appeared to be a panic buy on transfer deadline day in the summer, given his age and ability.
Leeds failed to get a striker over the line and thus turned to the Italy international as last resort despite being linked with him all summer.
It took Jesse Marsch some time to introduce him to the first team, but since his debut, it’s hard to make a case for him to be left out.
He’s doing all the right things and getting into the right positions to make something happen in the final third.
Gnonto still is not clinical in front of goal but he’s still extremely raw and very good for players his age.
He will only get better and the least Marsch can do is continue to give him game time as that’s precisely what he needs.
The initial signs are looking good and we cannot wait to see the player he becomes in the next two or three years.
