Kalvin Phillips ties Jack Charlton for 17 England caps in 365 day span
Kalvin Phillips recently tied Leeds United legend Jack Charlton’s record of making 17 England caps in the span of 365 days.
No other player in the history of the club has made more appearances for the Three Lions in that timeframe which is remarkable considering Phillips was nowhere close to the England side a couple of seasons back.
However, he’s now gone on to become one of Gareth Southgate’s first names on the team sheet and has been ever so impressive in the middle of the park.
He’s formed a seamless understanding with Declan Rice and the duo were pivotal in guiding the Three Lions to the finals of Euro 2020.
Since Marcelo Bielsa’s arrival, Phillips has moved into more of a defensive midfield position rather than a box to box one that he used to play prior to the Argentine.
It could be argued that he plays a similar role for the Three Lions as he did in the pre-Bielsa days and it’s worked out perfectly for Southgate thus far.

Should neither of the two suffer any major injury from now until November 2022, then the two are expected to be England’s first choice central midfield pairing.
If the Three Lions are to finally go that extra mile and win their first major trophy since 1966 then we’re sure that Phillips will play a pivotal role in helping them get there.
As of now, we can’t wait to see him back in action for Leeds and putting in similar displays every week for Bielsa’s side.
