Kalvin Phillips shares key Thorp Arch update as Leeds ready for the restart

Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips believes the Whites are ready to earn promotion once the Championship season restarts.

The EFL confirmed that the Whites will return to action a week on Sunday when they face Cardiff City in the Welsh capital.

Phillips shared that Marcelo Bielsa has already put the squad through two murder-ball sessions at Thorp Arch to prepare for the restart.

Phillips admitted that those sessions made it clear that the Whites squad is ready to restart and finish the job they started.

“We had one on Thursday and one on Saturday,” he told the Yorkshire Post.

“It’s a good guideline for us because we haven’t played football for so long.

“We were concerned that if we’re not fit enough or we’re not right, it’s not going to go well for us but I think when we do get to these ‘murder-ball’ sessions, having worked hard throughout the pandemic, we can see where we’re at and I believe we are ready to start the games now and finish the season.”

It has been revealed that the Leeds squad have beaten their pre-lockdown records on fitness tests after the break, proving that this time off could have been very beneficial.

The break has allowed the squad to return to full fitness, with Phillips and Jean-Kevin Augustin both struggling with knocks before the lay-off.

Phil Hay has reported that Leeds could be looking for a couple of friendlies before the restart, but based on Phillips’ comments, that may not be necessary – good luck to our rivals on keeping up.
